This last weekend was a short vacations for all the schools in Utah. It used to be called UEA, but they have now changed it to Fall Break. It is also the deer hunt. We decided to take our kids to Bryce Canyon. It has been about 20 years since I have been there and probably about the same for Jack. I forgot just how beautiful it is and I wonder why we don't get there more often. It is about 2 hours away from where we live and so breathtaking. We left Thursday about 1:00 pm. We stayed in Ruby's Inn. It was a lot bigger than I remember. The first thing that my kids wanted to do was go swimming. So I headed to the pool with them. The first night we just swam and watched the BYU game. (What a heart breaker). Friday morning we got up, went to breakfast and started to Bryce. It was a beautiful day in the high 60's and not a cloud in the sky. We hiked Queen's Garden. It was pretty. If you have ever been to Bryce then you know that When you go on a hike, you have to hike down in the canyon, and there is only one way out !!!!UP!!!!!!. well we got to the bottom of the hike, took some pictures, had a snack and then decided to make our way back. The boys decided that they love this hiking thing, and they ran most of the way. We stopped and took breaks and then they would be off again. Jackson decided that he wanted to win and be the first one back. I tried to stay with him, but had to tell him to stop and wait a few times. Well right before we were done, I caught up with him and started to pass him. He (being so so so competitive) decided that he did not like that. He put his arm out as to stop me and started to run the rest of the way. I tried to run with him and he did not want me to win so ran faster, and yes he did win. After that we went to look at a lot of the other view points. It was great. That night we went to dinner and then went swimming again. The next day, Saturday, We went on another hike. Sunset point, Navajo loop, It was a little harder then the first one, but by far my favorite. My mom and dad went with us on this hike and did great. I don't know many 74 year olds that can do that. Yes Jackson did run most of the time and toward the end we just let him finish and wait for us at the end. He did win again too. After this we looked around a bit more and headed for home. We stopped in Cedar City for an early dinner. We ate at La Fiesta. Jack and I went there on our 2nd date. We wanted to show our kids places that we used to go when we were dating. Well while we were there Hayden stared choking. It scared me a lot. Jack took him to the bathroom and he did the heimlick. Hayden was so brave and as soon as Jack got the chip our that was stuck in his throat. Hayden said "thank you daddy" That was the first thing he said. Wow what a scare but we are all safe now and home. I sure love to go on vacation, but I sure love to get home in my own bed. I am so glad that we were able to take the kids and have a great vacation.
